The stairs are also getting re carpeted so is the landing, the stairs are wooden with carpet running in the middle.

Hi there, looks like a lovely period property. Is it Georgian or Victorian? Can’t tell. Might be better to decorate the other rooms and leave the hallway till last. Just thinking about trailing mess around just after you’ve freshly decorated. I notice the doors and other woodwork have all been stripped. Do you intend to keep them this way? Or would you be happy painting them as well? Personally I would paint them, I think the wood is too dark and absorbing light from the space. Lots of different ways to style it though, you mentioned a sage green which I think could look nice with soft white woodwork and wooden flooring. I’d go for a heritage green with a lot of grey or blueish undertones to keep it looking classical. thank you Rachel, it's a bit of both, there is a lot of extensions added on to it. don't think they want to touch the wood work as it took them long enough to strip it. The picture you have shown is stunning. I have attached pictures of the spare room which will be decorated. it hasn't been done in 24 years, excuse the mess we are on with moving things around. The sofa bed is going. We are also unsure what to do with the bed frame.

Can totally understand why they don’t want to paint over the woodwork. A few years back it was all the rage to have stripped woodwork but then interior fashions change and everyone’s painting them again. Ok, spare rooms, if the divan base is ok then keep it if it’s still a bedroom and just change the headboard. Maybe change some of the bulky furniture for something more traditional looking, have a look on gumtree, eBay, second hand shops for some bargains. With regards decor, well like I said, lots can be done. Will you be stripping the wallpaper or just painting over it? I’ll see if can do some mock ups with photoshop. You could also possibly look at different colors yourself with the Dulux visualiser. One thing I definitely would do in the hallway is paint the window and stair spindles white. The window looks like it needs a few repairs but because of the white arch on top it looks unfinished. The stair rail looks beautiful but the pine spindles don’t do it any justice imo, white will make it look a lot classier.

The divan bases are good condition, the smaller spare that bed folds out into a queen size so think we might have to keep that without a head board. we are going to try and paint over the wallpaper in the big spare room, the smaller spare room will stay as a bedroom but as mum's sewing room. the furniture in the small spare room my dad made when I was little so it will be going.
We keep looking at the window on the landing but just keep seeing £££.
We have been using the dulux app but don't know where to start

Know that feeling:) I find the dulux app a bit tricky, haven’t used it in a while. Starting using the American Sherwin Williams app, don’t think it’s possible to get the colours over here but gives a good idea. Done a few mock ups with it at and an attempt in photoshop (I’m not that great at photoshop:)). But with any paint I’d get a few testers and paint them on large sheets of paper, move them around and see how they look at different times of day. Tried a few colours, sage green should work well in the hall, also quite like the deeper blue/grey/green. Definitely paint the coving and ceiling white in the hallway, it will look so much brighter. Tried a dark blue in the spare room as I always think this looks good with stripped woodwork. Plus you’ve also got the option of wallpapering either above or below dado rail or picture rail.

I was thinking Dark blue in the spare aswell but it's do we do a feature wall where the fire place is (which is getting 're done) or do we do the whole room, I'm used to smaller rooms having just done my house.

Hmmm, maybe start with the feature wall and see how it looks from there but I’d definitely paint some testers on large sheets of paper (I use lining paper) as daylight, shadows and artificial light can affect colours in different ways. Just wanted too add that I noticed you only posted in the hallway category. Think if you start a new thread and post in design dilemma (or I think you can post in multiple categories) you might get a few more responses. Glad too have helped (if only a little bit) and will love to see how you get on.
