Open plan foyer....too open!

We recently did a renovation on our front entry, kitchen and living room area, which are all located at the front portion of our house. I love the results, (still waiting for a few cabinet doors on either side of the cooktop) but feel like the entryway is too open to the rest of the home. No walls were taken down, but the kitchen was redesigned, and was moved forward. plus I'm still trying to get the living room layout finalized. We have an ocean view out our windows, so don't want to block the view! ( I took these photos at night!) We are in the process of acquiring new furniture as well. I have a large RH coffee table that will be replacing the existing one, and other than the sofa and lamps, everything else can be changed. We would certainly be open to any suggestions requiring new pieces or different furniture layouts to help create a more cohesive cozy look. Thanks in advance!

What about downbytheriver's layout, but swapping in larger comfier armchairs for the current chairs?

I would suggest large pieces of art on the long wall in the living area. The large throw I would eliminate and replace the pinkish(?) chair with one in a color and style that goes with the rest of the decor, more streamlined and perhaps with arms so it looks more inviting. The kitchen area is gorgeous, but I would soften it with a colorful area rug if there is a logical place to put one.

Living room definitely needs art. Maybe something like a console table and a large floor plant in the foyer so it's not such an empty lobby. I don't see an entry closet, so wall hooks or a coat tree might also be useful and help soften the look/feel.

If you are worried about the hallway being dark why not have a fully glazed door into the open plan area at this bottom of the stairs. This would allow you to see straight through the house when you walk in the front door and make the hallway feel much brighter and less closed in?

We are getting a media unit made for the back wall of our living room similar to the below pic but painted in off white. I have attached 3 pics of our living room, unit is being built on wall where tv is currently. We will be removing the green unit beside the sofa. Can someone please advise the optimum furniture layout for the room with the new built in unit and should we remove the centre ceiling light?

Rough cost to create open plan living

Hi All I am thinking about knocking through some walls to create an open plan kitchen living dining area and moving the utility and WC to another part of the house. I have attached photos of plans of what I have now (the drawing I’m colour) and what I am thinking of doing. Would anyone have an idea of what this type of thing costs? Are we talking €20k, €50k 100k?? I suppose a ball park figure to see if this is something we could afford before we start contacting professionals and wasting there time!! We are based in Ireland. the living area looks 'crammed' because there is so much in there compared to the rest.

Is this the main tv room? or more entertainment area?

Also, the house looks lovely--i suspect just living in it will bring in a lot of the little stuff that makes it feel more cozy.

Just in the process of moving in. Yes this will be the tv area. We are not keeping many of these pieces, just making do for now.

i would put the couch on the back wall, and float the chairs, straighten the tv and put it on the entry wall. wall mount the tv on a swivel.

That's exactly how we had everything originally, but felt there was too much space with nothing behind where the chairs were.

My former house was very open concept with nice views. I created the impression of separate spaces with rugs and low bookcases which didn't distract from the views. This isn't a great picture of the execution but hopefully you'll get the idea. Your house is very nice, it will come together.

In the entry, a console table with a lamp on it, a painting, and a rug would go a long way to define the space.
