Square hall 2 small windows so not very bright what colour will I paint walls? Doors are French white

Your old gold chair color is a bit hard to match with today's color palettes which usually use a softer gold. Have you thought about taking a blue into the dining room? Blue and gold is a very elegant combination and will compliment the mahogany floor and table. You could look for a stripe or a damask for the drapes or a wallpaper that would incorporate your chosen colors. An oriental rug would be a good way to tie in colors.

I definitely think some colour on the walls would look great with your monochrome curtains and furniture. I would suggest a relatively soft colour, maybe a duck egg or greyish green colour, nothing too vibrant that will battle with the bold monochrome! www.visioninteriors.ie Looking at your curtains and curtain pole, in my opinion it is the pole that initially needs to be corrected - it is a nice steel pole,however the importance of a pole being fitted correctly makes a huge difference to the hanging and look of the curtains. the brackets at each end of the pole should be at least 8"/20cm away from each sides of the window, this allows the curtains to frame the window nicely while letting in as much light as possible. The brackets should be 2"/5cm away from the finial ( ball end in this case) at each end of the pole. The space between the bracket and the finial (end of the pole) has one curtain ring only and the rest of the curtain rings/hooks are the window side of the brackets so that the curtains can hang straight. Whether you buy new curtains or hold onto your existing ones check out the fitting of the pole and remedy it - you will be amazed at the difference this can make.

I painted my kitchen three years ago, and I love it. It's hard work and can take some weeks to do. You need to take doors off, remove the hinges and handles. Remember you need to prime and paint two coats on each side, so for a door that equates to six coats of paint and letting each coat dry. I used Mylands of London paint, I'm just hooked on this paint as the eggshell is dead flat with only 8 percent sheen, you wont get another paint any flatter. And if the paints good enough for Downtown Abbey, then it's good enough for us. I would hold back on painting wall tiles, as they are white and look fine , paint the cupboards first and see what it looks like. I choose Myalnds paint and had the colour mixed in a farrow and ball blue green. See photos. Good luck Yvonne
