6 years agoAnother vote for a subdued single color, taken from your countertop. You might look at a tile called "pearl" carried by Lowes, which is a cool taupe and has a bit of a handmade look, while being relatively inexpensive. Given your tan floor, this would probably be a great match.
Bring home a few samples in the same range of tones, as some that you like by themselves won't go with the precise colors of your counter or floor. Should be enough options to find the right one, though.

Comments (16)I think this is a really nice kitchen - you've done a nice job. The only thing that is throwing it off are the two different floors in dining and kitchen area. I'd like to see the same flooring continued through both areas. I think you'll be very pleased with the difference it makes. Since you do not like the wood or the tile, perhaps a porcelain 12x24 tile would work for you. It's very durable, so you wouldn't have to worry about the Newfies scratching it and very easy to maintain. You'd could opt for one of the wood grains on the market or one made to simulate stone. Comments (13)I would move the table to the window end of the room for view out and light while you eat . Perhaps turn it 90 degrees if that would work with the door opening. You may be able to seat 4. Make the rest of the right hand wall - about half of it a floor to ceiling wall of built in storage including the fridge. Suggest deep drawers for lower and double door pantry cupboards sitting above. The left hand wall in a long line of counter top with the cooker, sink, washing machine, lower cupboards or drawers. It makes me happy as we did everything ourselves (took a while since only had sometimes time during the weekends). id love to see your kitchen as soon as you have the bodbyn installed. What colour countertops/backsplash, floors do you have? can buy a small “tester” can/container and try it. Can always be painted over. we really dont have much exposed wall directly next to the cabinets... except for the 15”deep (island against the wall). we have large opening above that “breakfast” counter to the family room (so as we sit we can watch tv that’s over the fireplace.). 6 years agoYes, something simple and like a glass subway tile would work well. Go for something that is the lightest color in your countertops.

6 years agowhite subway tile isn't the 'best'. there are no bests. it's what you like. 3x6 subway tiles can look just as busy as any other type of tile. what gets busy looking is mixing in different colors and patterns, like a linear bar mosaic. now that's busy.
you want something to compliment the countertop. Can you do Arabesque? of course you can. and many have.
Dasha81 just finished her kitchen after agonizing for days on what to choose. she was also 'advised' to go w/white subway tile. She's so glad she didn't.

make sure if you look at anything white, you get a sample. whites will make your cabinet white and countertop white look 'off' if not the same tone.
this is Nabi, crazed subway tile, 3x6 in a Glacier White. (tilebar) has a cooler tone
this one is a flat white, 3x12, Byzantine Bianco, (tilebar). yes you can also do a herringbone w/your countertop. it will look no busier than if you laid these in a regular pattern.

6 years agoHere at B&R Creative Builders we agree with avandervelde9's comment above, but would suggest trying a grey grout, instead of a white grout.
We would suggest a white subway tile in a herringbone pattern with grey grout to create more interest, or a white arabesque tile with grey grout. The grey grout will let the pattern of the tile pop, and actually give the kitchen a more modern look. Grey grout will also pull in the darker grays and blacks that you have in the granite counter top. Good luck! Your kitchen is looking great so far!
