How much counter space is on either side of the range?

I have a 72" wall where my rang is going. I can't decide if I should put the range off center so I'll have one side with more prep space or if I should center it, leaving a small space on either side. My husband and I disagree on this. I fee the range should be offset. He feels it should be centered. I do all of the cooking

I think the gas fireplace that you have is really cute, but might look at a stone slab on the floor instead of the mat that is there now. Comments (17)I understand what you want to do, so here's my suggestion, if it fits.....I'd move the couch under the mirror. Move table to the center of the kitchen, like an island. Sounds like it's two adults and two toddlers, so I'd definitely remove two of those chairs. Are your kids in high-chairs, if so move the other two chairs out too. Basically you want four chairs not six. Move them to a garage, basement or another room. Put the chairs around two or three sides of the table. I'd leave the side near the stove and washing machine(?) open. TV would mount to the right of the back door. See if that would work. Either way, it's going to be a tight space. Comments (5)Why don't you have an L shape and use the area under the window also for your sink and a couple of extra units? you could add shelves on either side of the window? Not sure why your fridge has to go at that end? might be best at the other end? As Sarah, suggests, get full height cupboards, and put the microwave in one of those, so that you're not losing so much space. Extra storage is probably more useful than having the microwave on display? It can easily be put on a shelf within a cupboard. (Our isn't even in our kitchen, but then we only use it once a week or so... so really depends) I'd also suggest drawers to the bottom of your units instead of cupboards....See More
