In a new passive house, tiles or wooden flooring in open plan area.
Comments (5)If you are doing in-floor heating (hydronic heating) I would go with tile. If you are not, go with wood. That's from the energy and comfort perspective. It's OK to look at the two options and choose the one that's most attractive. Don't feel like you need to optimize for energy with every decision. Also, both flooring materials are reflective acoustically. Plan your other surfaces accordingly, or you'll drive yourself batty with echoes....See Morebuilding a new home

Comments (6)Thank you both. The staircase does actually have a turn in it, near the top. And we are planning glass doors in the hall to the kitchen so you can see all the way from the front door out through to the garden! I'm not sure about opening up the playroom & family room. We would really value an 'adult' room at the front of the house for TV in the evenings, and somewhere to close off the kid's toys! We could also use the playroom as a 4th bedroom/guest room if necessary. Thanks again...See MoreNew Build Living Room Layout - Help
Comments (0)Hi, We have bought a new house and can't decide on the layout of the sitting room and was looking for some help. There is an electric fireplace integrated into the middle of the center wall and two alcoves on either side. I don't want to mount the TV above the fireplace as it will be too high so am wondering what is the best room layout and TV position. There is also a bay window at the front. We are planning on getting an L shaped couch as well. I have included the floor plans below. Any advice would be a great help!...See MoreRochelle S
