Built-in planter in dining

Hello,

We just purchased a house and are in the process of updating it. The dining room has half walls with built-in planters as you can see in the picture. The plants are fake, which is easy as far as maintenance, but I am looking to make this space feel more modern and give a coastal vibe. I have already ordered an updated light fixture (a capiz shell one featured in the second photo) and we got rid of the buffet and hutch.

One idea I have is to use white wainscoting. Perhaps I can get rid of the planters altogether. However , a part of me is hesitant to do this as it is a unique feature to work with. I appreciate any ideas on plants (silk or real) that can work with this space.

Thank you!
