Advice please. To add or not to add an island

I'm debating on to whether to add an island, and if i do, where do i put it, what color (countertop & cabinet) Do you think it'll work with the kitchen layout?

Comments (10)You could create an ensuite by borrowing space from the second bedroom, accessing it from the master. I would create one large luxury family bathroom by joining the current bathroom and the adjoining room into one. If you don't want to lose a room, you could swap the purpose of the two rooms, creating a medium sized bathroom and a small box room/study (expensive for some benefit). Lastly, if you really want to maintain the number of rooms but gain a bigger bathroom, you could move the family bathroom to the bottom, right-hand room, if plumbing allows. The floors are a light wood and the sofas are dark brown leather. I have bought this rug - see photo. 11 years agoKeiko, judging from your first two pictures...originally it seemed that an island was a good idea. Upon further review, however, it would be better to maintain that open space as you do not have enough room to achieve the desired look of a kitchen island. It is not worth the investment. You can, however, purchase a kitchen island cart that you can move in and out of the area as you see fit. While cooking, you can place it in the middle for extra counter space, and while hosting, you can wheel it out of the way for more room. These can range dramatically in price and quality but the mobility should provide the perfect answer for the 'to island' or 'not to island' dilemma. Attached is perhaps the most economical option- IKEA of course.

11 years agoIt looks as if you have room for an island and I think it would look very nice. I suggest going with black or a color that offers contrast from your existing cabinets
