Is tray ceiling paint too dark???
I usually see pPl go with either a lighter color or the same color as the wall for their tray ceiling paint. We decided to go with a darjer color so that the fan wouldn't blend so much. My only concern is that our furniture is dark as well. I included a pic of the bedroom set were having delivered. We're going to put three smallmirrors above the bed and use brght comforter sets with a white base to bring more color to the room.

Comments (5)Hi, I have the same problem in my hallway. If your budget is tight, just replacing the ceiling light with something like a starburst pendant with at least 6 bulbs would instantly improve the space. Also I would hang some bold and bright artwork on the walls and put a runner on the floor. Mirrors are also great for your space. I'm attaching a photo example. See how the eye is instantly drawn to the bold door? Also if you can repaint the wall, I would recommend you to use glossy finish paint so the light can bounce off the walls too. Comments (11)Agree with alant1000 about starting from scratch, but not sure about white. They are some lovely either light grey, light green, or light caramel, which will keep the room warm feeling, and less stark. The wallpaper feature wall you presently have is far too dark for the room - if you want wallpaper, there are some lovely sparkle designs, or stick to paint and do a slightly darker colour than the chosen wall colour. Have you thought about painting the doors white? The dark curtains do not help either. Do you need curtains and vertical blinds? If you lost the curtains, the window would look neater and lighter. 7 years agoIf you are willing to repaint, I think matching the color of the wall would look nice. Then you would be more free to do what you want with the furniture without feeling like you have to balance or match the dark edge of the tray ceiling.

7 years agoYes your ceiling is to dark; it is also painted wrong. This looks like a racing stripe around your room. If you want to highlight the tray paint just the ceiling in the tray a lighter, softer color. You can do the stepped down part, but do the lower ceiling portion of it also so it doesn't look like a racing stripe! The inspiration pic above is not done right either! With crown molding you want to do the underside to accent the crown. If you desire to do a two tone ceiling treatment do not leave any white ceiling showing!

7 years agoHere are some examples. If it is confusing to you think of it this way. Only the very top is the ceiling; everything else including the horizontal and vertical areas are wall. You can choose to do the " wall" part in a darker or lighter shade than the rest of the room; or in the same color. You can do the ceiling in a dark shade or a lighter shade; or keep it white. Hopefully these pics help.
