Narrow dark hall how to light it.

I have a long train long corridor in my hall with no natural light -how should I light it -any advice welcome

You could replace the single light with a track lighting which would spread the light across the hall rather than in one spot.

Also in fashion at the moment are the lights on wires which almost drape across the ceiling and suspended with hooks. You can get a further distance then and not have to stick to a straight line.

Also consider plug in sensor lights which illuminate when someone walks by.

Hi, I have the same problem in my hallway. If your budget is tight, just replacing the ceiling light with something like a starburst pendant with at least 6 bulbs would instantly improve the space. Also I would hang some bold and bright artwork on the walls and put a runner on the floor. Mirrors are also great for your space. I'm attaching a photo example. See how the eye is instantly drawn to the bold door? Also if you can repaint the wall, I would recommend you to use glossy finish paint so the light can bounce off the walls too. Narrow and dark. If you can add metallic paint or wallpaper or even mirror on one side you can visually open up the narrowness so it doesn't feel so long and straight. Paint is easier to remove but some wallpapers add great depth which also serve to widen a narrow hallway. Be sure to consider lighting as well. Empty out the furniture and fixtures there, including the lamp and ceiling fixture.Use a storage bench instead for a place to sit and remove shoes. Shoes or backpacks can be dropped inside it. You can get much better lighting from a fixture that has lights to wash the ceiling and to light the floor. What is under your stairs? Do you have room to install some storage there? Pull out stair drawers might work for shoes, and you might add some pull outs under the stairs if they are suited for it. A foyer should serve to introduce you, your style and the decor to be expected in the adjoining rooms. I would key furnishings and paint to what is going on in the rooms left and right of the foyer. Everything I see hanging on the walls is hung too high. The general rule is that the center point of a single piece or a grouping should be 5' above the floor. If the first piece at the bottom of the stairwell is hung at that level, you can use painter's tape to tape the center line all the way up the stairs and arrange pictures above and below the line, with a few centered right on it for a more pleasant arrangement. Not knowing much about the rest of your home or your personal style, I might suggest you paint a soft color like Sherwin WIlliams Sea Salt.

If you feel that this hallway is hard to work with perhaps some minimal and smaller lighting across the walls could do the trick. Spotlights running across the ceiling could also work.

definitely more ceiling lights. Then hang large pictures or mirror but make sure to stagger them......don't hang them opposite each other
