Dare to go grey?

Our hall, stairs & landing really need to be painted. So of course I starting looking on Houzz for some inspiration and quickly found a grey hall which looked great. Not cold or dark - it looked fab. It's pretty daring so tonight I painted a small section of the hall and we love it however we are unsure if the whole hall, stairs and landing can take it especially as they go over 3 floors. Any thoughts here are welcome

I'd go for dark/light grey combo - I did this in my bedroom as all of the darker shade would have made the area too dark.

Hi Mel, I love that grey hallway! My only worry with your space is that it would be quite dark because of the carpet. Are you planning on changing it? And would you paint the bannisters white, too? Very brave and fun project!

The carpet is staying - thinking of maybe doing a lighter shade of grey on the rest of the walls

Hi I am assuming you mean a masonry paint? Little Greene do a fabulous range of greys go for a warmer grey like Tusk. It is difficult to tell from the picture as screens are not a good colour representation. Not sure if cream would go too well but it is difficult to tell from the picture. Get one of their colour cards they have a whole one dedicated to grey!

Grey high gloss banister?

Have a white Matt finish on the spindles & base of stairs. Hope to get grey blue carpet on stairs. Walls are a grey blue color. I bought ral7015 slate grey today to match our front door but in high gloss for the banister & big front spindle. Husband thinks it will not go well with matt colour that it will be too shiny. Should I return it & get a matt finish?

Your dark grey looks very well. Be careful which light grey you use if you go with light/dark combo as we did our bathrooms in light grey and at best they seemed cold and at worst just dead. I think you can get warm greys like Elephants Breath etc and they might be better

Judging by the layout and the stair carpet we are neighbours! We've just decorated some rooms and wondering what to do with stairs.

I painted that one area and then just lost steam....only looking at it again now. I do like the idea of dark & light but kittihawke you are right about being careful with it. The only thing I've noticed if you break the grey with strong bright white it looks fantastic so I might hand a number of white frames in the hall, stairs & landing.
