Master bedroom layout

Hi guys. I'm looking for a little bit of inspiration on my new build. We are a little confused as to what to do with the Study room. It will be a wasted room but I would love to use it as a walk in wardrobe I'm just not sure if the room will flow properly as we have already have a walk in wardrobe in the plan. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated .

Of this is your forever home - and you want to use that room as part of your master suite consider including the walkway as part of the rooms, to enlarge the ensuite and walk in wardrobe.

If plumbing allows maybe put the ensuite in there and make his and hers walk in wardrobes en route to it maybe ?!

If you intend to move within 5-7 years I would suggest keep it separate as it will be marketed as a separate study /closet then.

A seasonal wardrobe/store - so in winter all your summer outfits will be in here and in summer you can keep all your winter things here !
Also can keep seasonal accent cushions or art here too !

I'd be very tempted to use the study as the bathroom with a lovely statement bath in front of the window. You could access through the current bathroom which would become you walk through wardrobe. Soil pipes probably not too far away if you put the loo in the corner nearest them. Then use part of the current access to the study as a linen room accessed either from the bathroom or the landing.

Here's what I've found after living in and visiting many tract homes- LR-13x18 FR-12x16 (and that they not be in the middle of the traffic flow pattern aka many tract homes post ww2 till about the late 50's) Kitchen (no eating area) 9x11 DR/Nook or other eating area 10x10 Entry-at least 3'6" wide 4' better Bedrooms (good design would at least provide 2 good bed walls aka no doors or windows in it) MBR-12x13 w/ at least 10 linear feet of closets All other bedrooms-10x10 with at least 5 linear ft of closets all closets 2' deep, Baths-5x8 but 5x9 better if fixtures lined up on one wall and tub/shower at end 7x8 and 8x8 with the tub/shower fully accessible if it's 5 ft long 6x8 if it's a 3' shower (fixtures lined up on 2 opposite walls). If you look and many floor plans the best ones will have all of this. Note that square footage does not have to be a lot-ciculation/flow between rooms helps this.

What color is your bedding? Use that to guide you unless you're getting new bedding. A rug or picture is also a good place to pull colors from. If you post some pictures of the room you'll get more response.

You could create a built in look with shelves on the smaller side and a shelf or two on the larger side to balance it out. I would do a chest ( or built in) that fits the space on the smaller side. Then maybe a longer console table on the other. You could go with wall mounted lighting if you do the shelves. I would look through Houzz at fireplace walls and find a look you love.

Is it too late to swap things around? I would make the study larger and put the main bedroom there- I would put the ensuite where the recurrent wardrobe is and then have the 4th bedroom as a wardrobe.

Bedroom 4 has a beautiful view of the ocean so I kind of want to keep that there. Thanks for all your comments guys. It's good to get fresh ideas.

I think using the study as a walk in robe will feel too far away from your bedroom. Having said that, I'm not a fan of walk through robes to bathrooms as shown in the current plan.

You have very large spaces, the study could become bathroom and the current bath/robe could be a full dressing room, not just a wardrobe as such.

If you re- think the whole space, with one door opening into master suite, where is the ideal place for the bed? Do you want a study area? A sitting room? A dressing room? There is plenty of space depending on what you need/want.

I agree with OnePlan. If you have a lot of clothes/shoes/bags etc then it would be a good idea to use the current plan walk in wardrobe as necessity items and then use the study as more of a long-term storage for seasonal clothing, suitcase storage, bedding storage etc

Hello Emma,

What about if you were to have the study room as a study/bedroom... You can buy beds that slide out from behind a book case or shelves for example.. A double would fit and then why not consider making the walk in wardrobe slightly smaller in favour of a dual access En suites.. If you were to divide the room in half.. Have sliding doors from both sides ie current side and from study side.. You can divide the slightly bigger en-suite room and situate a small shower, back to wall loo and small wall hung sink in both sides.. With back to back plumbing.

Then you can sell the property on with the idea of two possible bedrooms.. or as a study with it's own shower room for guests that stay on occasion... Small bathrooms can be just as spectacular as spacious ones, but at any rate it gives you more options as there is a full sized bathroom anyway.. : ))

Another thought. Can you swap the master bedroom to the other side of the stairs? This way the left side of the house would have two bedrooms and the family bathroom and hot press with a master suite on the other- this could reduce the amount of corridor
