Colour of floorboards

I'm not sure whether to go for light or dark floorboards. What goes best with the grey kitchen cabinets and furniture I have chosen?

I like the lighter floor in the kitchen picture. Kind of a Swedish vibe.

Adding width BEHIND THE BED - with a headboard (which doesn't have to be a "headboard"; it could be fabric, collection of mirrors, collection of pictures, a farm gate!, small chairs or stools) across the entire width. Matching bedside tables/bookcases/chests/ with LAMPS - useful storage for extra books, extra bedding, etc. CURTAINS always warm up a room. People will always feel colder away from home - provide an extra blanket or duvet to add to the bed. I notice there is no WARDROBE. Not really necessary for overnight guests (provide hooks on the back of the door) but useful for storing your out-of-season coats, etc. There is plenty of room behind the door. Buy one on eBay and paint it to suit your colour scheme.

It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. And also there is some original tile left and I was toying with the idea of tiling over that strip all the way to the wall to create a small corridor of tile as you come in the front door for the 'hallway' that once was, to add interest and a sense of separation between kitchen and hall because the door opens into the kitchen directly which isn't ideal (we had to do away with a small pocket door and partition wall there.) and then do the rest in marmoleum. Would this look weird or should I just do the marmoleum throughout?

Thanks jacksplash, was going dark but I have floorboards painted the same colour as the stairs is currently, on the landing too and these would then have to be dark also. Worried in case that would make the whole space too dark. Today I was considering a colour darker than the marble on the wall but somewhere on that tone, which could work better upstairs. Questions, questions??? It's the last place to be painted since the renovations but painters leaving next week so I need to get a move on

I like the lighter...because you can always add drama by adding an area rug. Both are very fashionable. The very light grays/whites are en vogue right now. Very cutting edge.
