I've got a bunch of reclaimed douglas fir boards, that have been sanded and varnished, but they are too orangey/red in colour (pic) !!!! I'm trying to salvage them, (once again) but not sure how to save them....

They will be going on the back of my island, the cupboards will be matt painted anthracite grey.. I'd love the wood to look like the picture below in an ideal world.... (tall order).. but a toned down whiter version of the above would be fine. Please help! as I really have no idea how to fix this.
