Hi. It looks a lovely room. I would go for something in the ŵall colour so as to maximise light. Eyelet ones would look good. I always like silk for something simple but elegant. I'd hang the curtain pole a little higher too. I'd add the interest in art and accessories. Shades of blue look lovely with stone.

Love that fireplace and patio doors you've got there! I think you've done really well to pick these natural colours for the walls and sofa because that is giving you a massive amount of room to experiment, depending on whether you do like to play with colours that is. I think, the base colour for your curtains should be the same/similar to your sofas, and they should have patterns of contrasting colours like dark purple and then you can add accessories such as vases, cushions, picture frames etc in the same colour or slightly different shades of purple to make it even better. Alternatively, you could have the curtains in the same colour as the walls (as a base colour) which have yellow (and maybe green) patterns, and again decorate accordingly. Of course that depends on what your favourite colours are. I personally think blue is a bit of a cold-er colour and it goes mainly for bathrooms, whereas green, purple and yellow are quite soothing, especially for a living room and they are quite naturalistic, fitting in with the patio doors and the garden.

The great thing about curtains in a mostly neutral room is that you can really experiment, without the commitment that painting or wallpapering a wall comes with.

Eyelets are a nice choice that create a contemporary feel - you could choose a watercolour style print for a soft feel that still makes a statement. This will also create a nice flow into your garden - a floral or botanical print would have the same effect.

As for specific colours, have a think about your favourites and tie them in with smaller accessories for a coordinated feel.

John Lewis do bespoke curtains with eyelets. I got some really good quality pure natural linen ones which I hung on a rustic oak pole. They look really good.

Hello there... I hope I can be of some help as I have almost an identical sitting room - I will just share with you my sitting room this year!! All the walls started out in Dulux Timeless colour so I wanted to add an accent colour- like you, I have one end of the room that is patio doors. So the opposite wall to those, I chose as an accent wall - I know a lot of people suggest not having an accent wall but perhaps having horizontal painted stripes of colour etc... But as I was doing the painting, I knew I would have made a real hash of that!! So the third pic is my first attempt at an accent wall - The Greene Paint company - colour Bassalt. This was nice but I just got bored of it - it worked well against the richness of the wood floor etc and was very much a statement but in a few months I just couldn't settle with it. After several coats of white I have now settled on Farrow & Balls colour Lamp Room Grey. I know this seems all very neutral, but from the second photo you will see I have gone for cream curtains with neutral vertical pom-poms - but, by doing all this, I can now change the accent colour in this room at the drop of a hat and quite importantly - INEXPENSIVELY!
For instance, if I wanted to, for Xmas, if I was going to spend a lot of time in that room, I could
a. Go for red and cream cushions and create a Scandinavian look!
Or
b. Go for silver beaded cushions and silver candle jars and have a winter wonderland look!
And equally in the summer, I could go for pastel pink floral cushions and a vase of delicate roses to bring the garden into the sitting room or just keep it neutral with ivory roses and a hint of lime green.

So my advice would be to keep the expensive things neutral and then you can alter the in expensive things as you go along. I also think one expensive piece in any room is a good investment - be it a huge oversized pewter bowl or a something similar - that again is neutral in colour but is a statement piece.

Not at all, I got them made - first time I used company - I am in Winchester, Hampshire but you could get anybody local to you to make them - they are triple pleat, interlined.
The company I used - www.sarahhardaker.co.uk. They were lovely and very easy going. I knew what I wanted and they produced exactly what I asked for!
I can sew myself -but not to their standard! So I have ordered an additional 3 metres of the Pom Poms and am making rectangular cushions with trim on each end to tie in with the curtains - these cushions will be how I link in an accent colour...... Together with a vase of 'correct colour' flowers! Good luck!
