Any ideas for final touches to this living/dinning room?
Comments (51)Just a quick note to thank you all for sharing your thought, ideas, experience and time. I especially want to thank Bluenan and decoenthusiaste for being with me through the all process for the last 6 months or so..., just wanted to post few photos of the results (https://www.houzz.com/discussions/any-ideas-for-final-touches-to-this-living-dinning-room-dsvw-vd~569586) as I feel it is not only me who created this space but it is your creations as much as mine. It may not be perfect or according to the the "Rules", but it is Me and my family. Each and every piece was chosen by me in different parts of the world and each one of them has a unique story behind. I am very pleased with my space. I love it! I am very blessed. .... and so I am off to my new project now... Back to school.... that's really going to be hard ;) Thank you all, once again....See MoreLiving Room too dark
Comments (11)Agree with alant1000 about starting from scratch, but not sure about white. They are some lovely either light grey, light green, or light caramel, which will keep the room warm feeling, and less stark. The wallpaper feature wall you presently have is far too dark for the room - if you want wallpaper, there are some lovely sparkle designs, or stick to paint and do a slightly darker colour than the chosen wall colour. Have you thought about painting the doors white? The dark curtains do not help either. Do you need curtains and vertical blinds? If you lost the curtains, the window would look neater and lighter. Hope this helps....See MoreMy utility room-please help
Comments (3)I deal with a lot of laundry too, especially at times when the kids will bring me a weeks worth of clothing. Where I am we pay electricity at different rates depending on the time of day so if I don't keep it somewhat organized it will start to overflow because weekdays I can only do loads in the evening to save $. One thing I did was to install cabinets with doors above the washer and dryers. I just re-used ones from our kitchen tear out, but you can usually get second hand ones fairly cheap if you are on a budget. This keeps all our laundry washing/dryer needs tucked away. We also have extra batteries and lights stored in there and our first aid and medication in the other cupboard for us and our livestock. We also have a laundry sorter for darks/whites/linens. It looks like you already have a great set up for that with your bins. Not sure how old your kids were, but they can start at a pretty young age at putting clothing in drawers if label the drawers with pictures. I think my kids were about 5 when they started doing it. It wasn't perfect of course, but they would have to put them in the drawers after I folded the clothes. It helps if you don't have clothes that need hanging. My one teenage son still gets all his clothes in drawers because they never seemed to make it on hangers in the closet. I would designate a folding area for the counter above the appliances and the counter above the cabinet as where folded clothes stay until their owner puts them away. I'd also maybe put some hooks or a rod above your laundry sorter. This would allow you to have clothes that are hung put on the hangers until they are put away....See MoreWhat is not working in this living room
Comments (12)Hi there, If you are looking to create an opulent feel then we recommend looking at Traditional Interiors and taking points from these and applying these to your contemporary living space. Chandeliers always work well to create the feeling of grandeur and in a room of this size you appear to have space for a small chandelier in the centre of the room. https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/designer-lighting/ceiling-lights/hanging-lights/impero-solid-brass-gold-plated-chandelier-16708.html I would also look at the following points to create the feel of opulence: 1. wall colour - either paint the walls in a Rich Red tone of incorporate a Damask or Faux Silk Wallpaper by Zoffany https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/designer-wallpaper/zoffany-wallpaper-silk-plain.html 2. Flooring - the tiles will not give you that "cozy feel" as these would be more ideal for a kitchen area. Therefore it would be better to replace these with Wooden floorboard and then a Rug. We provide some beautiful hand made persian rugs and supply for any room dimension and colour:https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/persian-new-traditional-mahal-rug-13769.html 3. Lighting : Incorporate a Chandelier to create the opulent look & feel 4. Sofas - Leather sofas can be very comfortable but they are best in a snug room as they take away from the elegant formal look of a living room. Duresta are a UK brand which create their sofas inspired by pieces found in National Trust Properties, therefore we would recommend looking at 2 new sofas and an upholstered coffee table for the centre of the room. https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/luxury-furniture/shopby/brand-duresta.html Attached is a quick sketch of what we could do. We guide our clients to purchase the right things at great value to achieve the look you that you want. We use our experience and professional advice to guide you and create your dream living space.
