Question for an electrician - aluminum wiring

I have aluminum wiring and had regular light fixtures installed and I suppose paste was used? Any difference in getting a ceiling fan with wall controls/switch installed?

Our previous house, built in 1972, had aluminum wiring. We were told that it is dangerous and should be replaced. Maybe something has changed since then?
