Lighting a large picture

Hi, we have a huge piece of art on the walls-- so huge we've had to cap the wall lights. Would you move the wall lights out a bit or remove completely and find another light source, like recessed ceiling etc. also, we have brown leather sofas and cream walls at moment. How would you update room?

I would wall-mount xenon or LED lighting either above the artwork or from the ceiling. You'll need a light-source that covers the entire spectrum of colour to give the artwork it's true potential. From conversations I've had with various contacts, Xenon are the best, but perhaps a bit more expensive. LED might be a more economical solution. Hope that helps.

Yellows/creams/ whites/ and grays are very fresh right now. The gray can range from light silver to charcoal, but it won't take away from bright and airy feel, because it really makes the yellows and creams stand out.

Hi, you have a lovely home! I read through your thread, and I like Dar Eckarts suggestion above the best. I think because of the symmetry of it as an H shaped house is symmetrical, and it would also keep the space looking decorated but still open and uncluttered which is what an entrance should be. Sorry, but I don't care for the bookcase idea in an entrance. I also noticed the masks you have, and think it would be great to decorate the space using them as inspiration. Here is a photo to show you the kind of rug I think would work here.

At the moment all your stuff is concentrated at one side of he room making it cluttered and bare at the same time. Pictures need to go at eye height, so maybe get a simple shelf built above the sofa at eye height for some knick knacks. Somehow your pictures seem very high up on the wall. You could cluster them together above the sofa maybe? You can still have your mantel but with maybe a better-selected range of bits on it. Agree that some shelving might be good in the alcoves but not above the line of the top of those pictures. I would have gone for a much darker colour for the walls (like navy blue) because the sofa would have blended in a bit more and it would look luxurious against the dark background. Plus dark colours give your stuff an instant quality upgrade. (I always say it makes my sh*t look like stuff) Sorry that's unhelpful as you've obviously made those decisions!!

Did you end up putting the rollers outside the recess ? I imagine yes otherwise you'd have problems opening the window ? Thanks for your help :-)
