grey windows

I am renovating a property in Ireland and I have chosen dark grey windows and now I am struggling to choose a front door colour. I really like a navy one I have seen, it is a traditional four panel style. I want glass either side of door to let in the light as the new surrounding porch will be in stone. My question is will grey windows either side of navy door work? We are in the planning stage so no pictures only house as it is now. All advice appreciated.

Firstly -- what a lovely home! The classical styling is very nice.

Regarding the door color vs. trim color -- how dark the tones are compared to each other is the first thing to consider in this case. If the tones are similar, it may look very coordinated. In other words, I would prefer a charcoal along with a medium / dark blue. Compare different tones to see what works best for you.

The second thing I would consider is the undertone of the grey. It will look one way at your kitchen table in planning stages and another way entirely next to the yellow of the house and the blue of the door. If you can determine the undertone of the grey -- great! That may help you to choose the type of blue to work with.

If you still are having troubles after that, consider a blue with some grey in it.

Have a lovely time of it. Color is a great thing to play with.

Hi I am assuming you mean a masonry paint? Little Greene do a fabulous range of greys go for a warmer grey like Tusk. It is difficult to tell from the picture as screens are not a good colour representation. Not sure if cream would go too well but it is difficult to tell from the picture. Get one of their colour cards they have a whole one dedicated to grey!

Hi, Moving into a new house which is currently painted white with white PVC windows. We're planning on replacing the windows with Aluclad windows and I was looking for suggestions on colour combinations. Initially, I was thinking that I'd repaint the house white and go with Anthracite Grey frames. However I'm a little worried that it's very fashionable at the minute and might date in the next couple of years. I've also seen a few houses lately with lighter coloured windows which looked good. One had a grey with what looks to be almost an olive undertone with the walls painted a deep creamy shade. I'd be really interested to hear what colour combinations other people have gone for and whether I risk dating the house as '2016' with a white/dark grey/anthracite combination. I'll post photos later of the house as it is currently and a mock up of the house with dark grey windows. Thanks a million!!
