Need to update front of house without replacing all the siding

The front of my house needs a facelift. It is all white, with green shutters, green front door, and grey shingles. I may get a new roof soon, so shingle color can change. I can't afford to replace the entire siding on the house, but could do portions of the front. I will do a landscaping renovation this spring. Any suggestions on how to make the front of the house look more sophisticated and richer? The all white siding on this large of a house tends to look washed out to me, especially in winter. I've thought about adding some brick to the front, but I have yet to see any brick that would blend well with white siding. I do not like the 'country' look. I want a more sophisticated look.

Nice house! First, dress up your front entry. Your front door looks more country to me. Replace with a dressier door and add sidelights and transom if possible.
Enhance the columns, eg, making them larger or adding another one to each side.
Use generous and stylized light fixtures.
Stone looks nice with white siding. If not on the house, using it for the porch, steps, and front walkway would look great.

My understanding: You didn't find any problem functionally, but you feel this looks old & need some brightness & change in this. My advise: 1). Remove towel rod, shift it next to tub or behind closet & have full length mirror, which will make your space double & reflect natural light as well thus makes the space more bright. 2). Get couple of plants (small plants or bush type or creepers which doesn't occupy much space on floor but grows vertically). 3). Get some artifacts made from bright colored glass, can flower vase or wall hangings or glass tiles etc, these can be of yellow or Bright Orange color these are to be hung on walls opp to mirror or pasted(3M tape both side glued) if you are using tiles. 4). Get a mat of same color as artifacts & place between tub & closet. these all are easily done by yourself. OR if you can afford to then replace only green tiles & floor tiles if you wish to OR all tiles.

Need help with stone wall

Well we live in a flat on the 4th floor in Edinburgh city. So we loved the thought of being able to expose the original stone walls of the flat. You can see from the pictures that we had it done for the kitchen and lounge. Since everything of ours are modern, the stone wall really brings an edge to the design. And in the lounge, we painted it the Farrow & Ball Downpipe which we think really sets it off next to the stone. Especially with the mouldings on the window, the lounge has become quite a grand looking space even without any furnishings. And we didn't even get to varnish the walls as we liked the way it looked now. There doesn't seem to be any problems with the dust coming off the walls.

Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it.

Maybe just painting the windows and trim a warmer color would help to warm your home up. I would also update the entry by removing the shrub next to the garage and extend the patio to the end of the garage. Use a complementary color to the trim for the patio. You could also extend the stone onto the wall around the door. I love bluestone but there are other less costly options. The post is a little wimpy so you may want to get a larger one.
