Mary, I am very glad to hear from you. I think of you often. It hurt me terribly when that unthoughtful person said what she said. I can only imagine how it must have hurt you. I would love to see how you have decorated for Christmas. I am almost certain there are differences between how our 2 countries do it. Here's what I've found after living in and visiting many tract homes- LR-13x18 FR-12x16 (and that they not be in the middle of the traffic flow pattern aka many tract homes post ww2 till about the late 50's) Kitchen (no eating area) 9x11 DR/Nook or other eating area 10x10 Entry-at least 3'6" wide 4' better Bedrooms (good design would at least provide 2 good bed walls aka no doors or windows in it) MBR-12x13 w/ at least 10 linear feet of closets All other bedrooms-10x10 with at least 5 linear ft of closets all closets 2' deep, Baths-5x8 but 5x9 better if fixtures lined up on one wall and tub/shower at end 7x8 and 8x8 with the tub/shower fully accessible if it's 5 ft long 6x8 if it's a 3' shower (fixtures lined up on 2 opposite walls). If you look and many floor plans the best ones will have all of this. Note that square footage does not have to be a lot-ciculation/flow between rooms helps this.

Sure you can, we do it all the time in rental properties. Old houses have windows in the showers and renters do not take care of tile. You just need the right saw and then tub trim. Not everyone can tile- it takes a lot of patience and a tile saw. And if you are not a DIYer naturally it can be a big mess. We have done a lot of repairs to walls from botched tile jobs. And hiring out is expensive. You say you have a small budget. Chances are with the look of the tile in the pic- you may have water damage already. Powdy, it all depends on your skill level and actual budget and what you find underneath you remove the tiles.

We also bought our house before babies - but I can now tell you they usually are mainly in the tub yrs1-8 maybe even 10 or 11! We opted to put both a tub (with an electric shower) and a walk-in shower / wet room type arrangement in the main bathroom. Seems like a lot in 1 place but works for us.

Oh wow! I've finally found a bathroom without a window - and roughly the same size of our own! The transformation is great - it gives me hope that we can also alter the layout of our bathroom in the next year! Fab job!
