I have tiles throughout my house except for bedrooms and study. I am finding these very hard on my feet, and wonder if laying sheet vinyl over the tiles would help?
Any sort of resilient flooring will be easier on your feet and joints. There are other options available to you such as cork and Marmoleum (a brand of linoleum, which is a natural flooring material).
I forgot to mention that laying resilient flooring over your tile is possible, but if you have grout lines, those can telegraph through the resilient flooring, causing cracking and wear that wouldn't normally occur with a perfectly smooth subfloor.
The grout joints in the tile flooring can be filled prior to the installation of the resilient flooring, eliminating the telegraphing effect. You might look for a vinyl floor in a flexfloor or fiberfloor variety. These are fiberglass backed products (rather than felt) and are typically thicker and more forgiving in addition to being a more durable and generally nicer looking flooring option. Most have limited floating installation options as well.
