Hi all, Im looking to use white oak floors for my living room but want to know what colors to paint the walls besides white? Floors similar to the attached photo. Many thanks!
We are in home build process. Initially, wanted the formal look of the "dark chocolate" look. Sooooo many "challenges" shared by others that I'm now deciding on a lighter color. Don't want "rustic". Don't want floor to compete....but compliment, wear well, low maintenance.
We too went w/(quarter sawn) white oak and still in COLOR decision process. I like the floor color in the above picture- appears to be in light grey shades. Goes well w/the clean lines, contemporary look. Love the very wide planks too!
Our home is more eclectic (contemporary, traditional, formal). Initially, selected a neutral (vanilla) tone on the walls in the public areas and a warm, red-cranberry accent (in DR, and fireplace walls). With a subtle grey/green/blue tone in the personal spaces (which by the way - exists in some of our existing fabric finishes).
Now considering that soft grey/green/blue tone in the large open kitchen, breakfast space, family room. Tall ceilings, big windows, lots of sunlight coming from the west/east. This color is picked up in small amounts in our cooktop backsplash - which ties it in.
But....primary driver for considering the change was - going with a lighter floor! All that daylight (which I love!)...
P.S. My kitchen wall cabinets are a very contemporary - HIGH GLOSS, WHITE. I think a little, subtle color will be a plus - particularly if we have a lighter stained, or no-stain white oak floor.
Bottom line................ it's a VERY personal choice, specific to your home design, materials, finishes. Consider your other materials: go with the color that best compliments your interior lighting and surrounding materials.
If all my comments gives you pause to consider.....good. Best wishes. I'm sure it will be lovely.
