Hi guys, Leelee we are definitely doing the vintage bits on the wall. We actually have some vintage cereal boxes that we are planning on displaying on the shelves (filled with cereal of course)!. Sarainitaly - I'm investigating thenIkea planner but it's painful to work (or maybe it's just me!). Here's a pic of the walls totally painted green now. Think the shelves will look great along with some pictures dotted around. It's the cabinets now that will b a pain! BTW it was pure enthusiasm that stopped me waiting until the water heater came off the wall to paint - lol. I will have to paint the patch when it's off.

Hi PCmom, sstarr and lefty47. Thanks a million for the comments and views. I'm taking it all on board. PCmom I like the frosted glass idea but I think it will block too much light. We are actually thinking of doing this though in our front sitting room as the window is floor to ceiling. Love the recycled lumber idea and it looks great in the photo - think my husband is hell bent on steel shelving though. sstarr - I'm gonna have a look at your profile pics now but I don't think we will have enough wall space for floor to ceiling pantry. lefty47 we are keeping the appliances for now. It is only the oven - its not the prettiest but its functional and we will most definitely get a new fitted one in the future. There are a few other pictures there of the room around and the left wall - can you not see them? If not I can try and add them again. I'm glad you liked the toilet paper. It took me ages to decide where to place that! What does everyone think about colours of the cabinets? I think we might go for a neutral tone on the wall (unless anyone can visualise anything better?) and either with the steel shelving or possibly the recycles ,lumber idea from PCmom? I think most of the non-pro's who comment on here love interior design so aren't likely to have used a pro tbh but I may well be wrong! I'd have a word with AJ, you can also look at her design dilemma suggestions for others houses if you go onto her profile. alternatively click onto the find pro section and search for designers in London. You can have a look at their galleries, reviews and indicative costs. Or you could just post each room on here and all types of people will provide feedback! The potential downside of this is you may not get a cohesive look, plus it may be time consuming for a whole house. In terms of the hall, white needs light to work and the end looks a little dark although that may just be the pic as my iPad turns even the brightest rooms dark! The tiles also appear more cream than white so maybe a white with a yellow or even a red undertone may work best or a pale, warm neutral. You could also go for a colour, the floor will stand out whatever

I would move the sofa to the opposite side of the room (providing there is not a door on that side, cannot see but a small over lap wouldn't hurt) move the armchair at far end of room near to the fireplace at a slight angle, either toward the fire if not watching tv or the other way if something good on the telly x. (everyone can enjoy the fire then). Move the TV from the corner beside the fireplace to the corner where the smaller arm chair sits at present in the photo. Then less focus on TV and more focus on your gorgeous fire place, but TV still accessible to watch. This would then free space either side of fireplace to hang pictures. if you enjoy your art work hang it, it makes your home your own. I would place similar themed pictures of the same size just below the level of the top of the lintel so the eye focuses on this strong line first, at the same height on either side of the fireplace. Follow this top line of frames around the wall and hang other pictures on the walls between the windows on each side of room (behind sofa in new position) The TV unit is quite large, perhaps painting it in a very slightly darker shade than you walls will detract attention but only if this is not a well loved piece of furniture. An oversize (or largeish) footstool in the middle of the room to put your feet on when watching the fire and double up as a coffee table with a beautiful large tray left on top to put your coffee on, flowers or a small collection of books. If large enough the person in the armchair could put their feet up too. Just an idea. No idea of you view outside or where your power points are. If you want to further soften the room contemporary pelmets above your blinds would be nice in the same fabric and picture lights above your pictures create lovely ambient lighting glow. lovely room though
