Great area...I think you need some much bigger and more colourful art on the walls and perhaps a different more interesting rug with some pattern and colour. Not sure about dying couches. I would suggest
Irving with them as they are until the kids are older....or getting covers if they really bother you. TV could be elevated on a long storage cabinet that also held baskets for kids stuff?

I'm having trouble orienting myself in this room. Can you post pictures of whole walls? I see two sofas across from each other, but I have no idea where the chair is located.

You have the TV located on a short wall on a too-small stand, and somewhere else you have a too small console table/shelf thing on a big wall with a wedding photo that is hung way too high. Why is the TV not on that wall?

I suspect there is a better furniture arrangement, but we need better photos to see. Once the arrangement is set, we can do something about bringing some life into the room.
