New Kitchen: Small budget: don't want convential units

Long run of worktop along back wall. Double sink set in at one end. Underneath dishwasher and some space for shelving or cupboard. Rather than kitchen units am considering having brick supports for this worktop. the cooker is sited at right angles at the end away from the sink. On the other side of the cooker is a small peninsula. Thought maybe that the supports for this could be brick as well. There is more but this is what I have to date. Is brick a mad idea.
