“Before the purchase closing, we were looking for a company able to make our new home shining with a new floor. Interviewed 6 companies and got various quotes but wasn't 100% satisfied with the feedback received, in terms of price and advice. This until we finally found Chicago Flooring Innovations and met Octavian, one of the two owners. He had a few meetings with me and my wife, spending several hours and he was for us also a great adviser, not just a professional to hire. He was patient with us and very flexible in terms of solutions as we had a very tight timeline. The house we bought had carpet in all of the 3 bedrooms, tile in foyer and kitchen and Kahrs Jarrah in living/dining rooms. Initially our plan was to replace the carpet in the bedrooms with the same Jarrah floor. But after several brainstorming sessions (where Octavian was really great), we ended up with the decision to get rid of everything, installing the Kahrs Brazilian Cherry La Paz throughout the condominium. The crew was able to complete the job timely, working very hard and being always keen to explain or to assess any inquiry from us. “Description Of Work: Installed new hardwood floors in the dining room and study, new stairs (treads and risers) to the second floor and new wood in the upstairs hall. They sanded the existing hardwood down to the original wood and stained and finished both existing wood and the new wood so it appears as though all the wood was installed at the same time. The job went very well, indeed despite some inherent challenges that the project entailed. One of the main obstacles was blending the new hardwood flooring with existing hardwood in the foyer and kitchen area. This involved cutting out some of the existing flooring and staggering the new wood so the seams would not show and it would look like all the hardwood was installed at the same time. They also had to compensate for a poor job done by another company by installing new and much better looking and fitting wood thresh holds leading to the laundry room and the upstairs bath. The existing hardwood floors were in poor shape due to age and excessive usage so after all the new wood and stairs were installed the entire wood floor was sanded down to the original wood, stained and finished with several coats of scratch resistant poly. Note: to help us decide on a stain color they actually rolled out three different stains on the floor so it was relatively easy for us to make that all important color decision. Once the stains dried back they were sanded off and the floor was readied for the stain application process. In addition to the work outlined above IC Custom installed all new quarter round trim throughout the work area, pulled up a portion of the subfloor that was badly damaged and replaced it with new subfloor material. Likewise, stair carpeting and carpeting in the upstairs hall were also removed and carted away. After the job was complete and upon close examination we realized that the installation of one tread did not meet our expectations. All it took is one call to IC Custom and they had a man to our house the next day where he set about and fixed the problem to our complete satisfaction. Also worth mentioning was the care the team exhibited in sealing off our rooms to minimize dust and dirt transfer from the work area to other parts of the home.
