From all turf to all textures! Say good bye to mono-cultures like lawns, and open-up to a broader landscape palette. The young ground covers and shrubs will spread and blossom, adding food diversity for the local pollinators. More then grass ever could!

A collection of exotic plants keep the front yard interesting year round. Coppertone Stonecrop (Sedum nussbaumerianum) make a pretty groundcover.

Carex Testacea a grass-like plant, often with shades of orange, shown with FX Luminaire low-voltage pathway light. Foxtail asparagus fern in background. The front areas of this landscape in Bel Marin Keys, Novato, were transformed from a tired, water thirsty-lawn into a contemporary setting with dramatic concrete pavers leading to the home's entrance. A variety of low-water plants for sun and part shade complete this project front yard transformation. Installed in February 2014. More plant updates early 2015. The back areas of this transformation is featured in a separate project: Modern Water-Side Landscape Remodel http://www.houzz.com/projects/456093/Modern-Water-Side-Landscape-Remodel---Lawn-Replaced--Novato--CA

The clients wanted a landscape that matches the Spanish Colonial Revival style of this NE Portland Home. The copper-clad fence serves as a dramatic backdrop for a complete redo of the landscape, bringing new garden features and Mediterranean plants that could thrive in the PNW.
FormLA Landscaping
This IdealMow lawn of native Carex pansa is ready for play! Mown, as it is here, it looks like a traditional lawn. Left to grow, it will form undulating waves of green.

Sticks and Stones Outdoor & Landscape Design
This home backed up to a new and busy hiking trail.
The homeowner requested privacy without a fence. Various evergreen and deciduous trees were chosen for their drought tolerance and durability. There is a heavy duty landscape fabric underneath rocks and mulch. We left several planting spaces open for spring bulbs. The homeowner splurged for larger than usual trees in order to obtain privacy immediately. This is a wonderland in the winter, as the homeowner decorates each tree with lights. Photograph by TF.

We installed this garden a few years after the major installation. There were small pieces of the evil plant Equisetum in the soil mix, that over time became a pest. We shut off the water and put in a desert garden instead. Problem solved. photos by Caitlin Atkinson
