The new entry hall addition was carved out of the original front porch. It soars two stories & is capped with a light well which extends into the middle of the house. This area provided the ceremony of entrance, mud space & coat closet which were absent in the original house. Photo -

This Woodways built in storage for outdoor clothing keeps you and your belongings organized. Added doors allow for some belongings to be hidden in order to keep your space looking less cluttered. Contrasting the dark and white tones again ties into the rest of the house and the materials seen in the kitchen and bathroom.

Shoe storage just inside the front door encourages family and friends to kindly remove their shoes upon entering. When open, the accordion doors offer a seamless transition from inside to out.

A custom-designed credenza floats on the wall in front of the entry. Its form compliments the curved counters of the kitchen. The outer ribbon is painted with a semi-gloss white finish while the small cabinet within is white oak with a clear varnish. Photo by Heidi Solander

The homeowners transformed their old entry from the garage into an open concept mudroom. With a durable porcelain tile floor, the family doesn't have to worry about the winter months ruining their floor. Plato Prelude custom lockers were designed as a drop zone as the family enters from the garage. Jackets and shoes are now organized. The door to the basement was removed and opened up to allow for a new banister and stained wood railing to match the mudroom cabinetry. Now the mudroom transitions to the kitchen and the front entry allowing the perfect flow for entertaining. Transitioning from a wood floor into a tile foyer can sometimes be too blunt. With this project we added a glass mosaic tile allowing an awesome transition to flow from one material to the other.

Engaged by the client to update this 1970's architecturally designed waterfront home by Frank Cavalier, we refreshed the interiors whilst highlighting the existing features such as the Queensland Rosewood timber ceilings. The concept presented was a clean, industrial style interior and exterior lift, collaborating the existing Japanese and Mid Century hints of architecture and design. A project we thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish, we hope you do too. Here is the mudroom featuring the elevator. As the client walks in they will open the door, pull up the gate, put their bags inside, close it up and they will press one button. As for the finishes, we kept it more neutral tones to let the wood speak!
