This client wanted to experience Santa Fe in Sierra Madre. Challenges were the steep hillside lot, great views, fire concerns and narrow car access. We created a rustic home with a low profile, lush surroundings and an air of quiet tranquility. This rustic southwestern house uses reclaimed vegas and logs for the structural system and asphalt emulsion mud adobe walls for the finish. The house is like an adobe village separated into four structures connected by verandas, courtyards and log bridges. Crisp-Pix

Resting on a corner lot, this charming French traditional home embraces the street on two sides. It offers a private countryside retreat with steep roof pitches, soothing materials, and an abundance of natural light. This Paradise Valley Estate started as we master planned the entire estate to accommodate this beautifully designed and detailed home to capture a simple Andalusian inspired Mediterranean design aesthetic, designing spectacular views from each room not only to Camelback Mountain, but of the lush desert gardens that surround the entire property. We collaborated with Tamm Marlowe design and Lynne Beyer design for interiors and Wendy LeSeuer for Landscape design.

Placed on a large site with the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy at the rear boundary, this one story residence presents a modest, composed public façade to the street while opening to the rear yard with two wings surrounding a large loggia or “outdoor living room.” With its thick walls, overhangs, and ample cross ventilation, the project demonstrates the simple idea that a building should respond carefully to its environment.
