Vetter ArchitectsVetter Architects
In early 2002 Vetter Denk Architects undertook the challenge to create a highly designed affordable home. Working within the constraints of a narrow lake site, the Aperture House utilizes a regimented four-foot grid and factory prefabricated panels. Construction was completed on the home in the Fall of 2002. The Aperture House derives its name from the expansive walls of glass at each end framing specific outdoor views – much like the aperture of a camera. It was featured in the March 2003 issue of Milwaukee Magazine and received a 2003 Honor Award from the Wisconsin Chapter of the AIA. Vetter Denk Architects is pleased to present the Aperture House – an award-winning home of refined elegance at an affordable price. The project is laid out as a series of garden rooms. Privacy is modulated by solid white walls, which extend from deep within the house, into the landscape outside. Material and color choices are restrained, so that the building can be a blank canvas for the play of natural and artificial light. Skylights throughout the house minimize the need for artificial light during the day. Photo by Ben Rahn

This was a 1940’s mid century modern home that was in dire need of a facelift. The brick floor was in bad shape and there was a large brick bird cage in the entrance of the home that I knew would be the first to go. With the new modern inspiration for the home and my clients love of cement floors we headed down the difficult path of finding a artisan that would take on the task of refinishing the floor. We could not demolish the floor and it was 1.5” off from one side to the other. With several applications and complete determination the original vision for the space was achieved. The process was not stress free but the outcome amazing!

The double height hallway links all the rooms in this compact two storey house. The timber clad bridge to the master bedroom creates a soft contrast to the white walls.

Angelehnt an die Architektur des Bauhauses reduzieren unsere zumeist fugenfreien Zementböden das Raumgefühl auf das Wesentliche. Robust, zurückgenommen und doch charaktervoll.

Double doors from hallway to living room removed to make better use of the space. These were replaced with a custom made extra large pocket sliding door. Polished concrete floors throughout the ground floor level.
