These Hopkinton, MA homeowners had a wonderful view of conservation land behind their house. This includes a beautiful view during every season as well as various types of wildlife. The problem was, they had only a small kitchen window offering limited viewing of the great outdoors. So, with the help of their contractor and Kitchen Associates, a new kitchen layout was designed. Three oversized windows were installed to create a panoramic view of the beautiful backyard.
Adding these great windows also created a challenge. With no room for upper cabinets, would there be enough storage? To solve this, a storage system was installed in several large lower drawer cabinets to store plates, dishes, and glasses.

"One of my favorite examples of a homeowner’s color scheme that was successfully worked into a kitchen makeover is this photo of a Dura Supreme kitchen designed by Barbra Bright of Barbra Bright Design in San Francisco, CA.
This kitchen is a perfect example of how a customer’s favorite color can be worked into the design to create an incredibly personal and unique look. Everyone that sees this kitchen says “WOW!” and notice how the bright green paint is only used on a few doors and drawer fronts that could be changed if the homeowner eventually wanted a different look." states Wistrom.

The house was built in 1963 and is reinforced cinder block construction, unusual for California, which makes any renovation work trickier. The kitchen we replaced featured all maple cabinets and floors and pale pink countertops. With the remodel we didn’t change the layout, or any window/door openings. The cabinets may read as white, but they are actually cream with an antique glaze on a flat panel door. All countertops and backsplash are granite. The original copper hood was replaced by a custom one in zinc. Dark brick veneer fireplace is now covered in white limestone. The homeowners do a lot of entertaining, so even though the overall layout didn’t change, I knew just what needed to be done to improve function. The husband loves to cook and is beyond happy with his 6-burner stove.

Rebel Builders
Industrial transitional English style kitchen. The addition and remodeling were designed to keep the outdoors inside. Replaced the uppers and prioritized windows connected to key parts of the backyard and having open shelvings with walnut and brass details.
Custom dark cabinets made locally. Designed to maximize the storage and performance of a growing family and host big gatherings. The large island was a key goal of the homeowners with the abundant seating and the custom booth opposite to the range area. The booth was custom built to match the client's favorite dinner spot. In addition, we created a more New England style mudroom in connection with the patio. And also a full pantry with a coffee station and pocket doors.

Carved Custom Cabinets
This Spanish colonial panel style from carvedcabinet.com (Carved Custom Cabinets) was inspired by a 200 year old, small, hand carved trunk on legs displayed in the Museum of New Mexico. It was found in a village north of Santa Fe. The trim surrounding the panels was inspired by a book on the history of woodworking in New Mexico. Finished in a honey (Miel) with dark glaze to bring out the carving and medium distressing.

The white cabinetry now pops against the vibrant green backdrop and a new cabinet crafted from Indonesian boats adds an intriguing note of character. The staggered medley of tangerine pendant lights punctuates the dining table with lively energy.

This couples small kitchen was in dire need of an update. The homeowner was an avid cook and cookbook collector so finding a special place for some of his most prized cookbooks was a must!
