Contemporary Kitchen in Wendover

Introducing a classic shaker kitchen with a contemporary spin! The brief for this kitchen was a challenging one. Our clients wanted to create a space that reflected the beauty of their converted school house without is feeling twee or too traditional. It still however needed to be in keeping with the feel of the house. The original kitchen felt small and rather dark which the exact opposite of the feeling our clients wanted to create. Our resolution was simple but dramatic. The original low ceiling was removed to expose the beamed vaulted ceiling and a large built-in cupboard housing the boiler was also removed. The back wall was built out by 100mm to accommodate the pipework with the boiler situated in the new dresser cabinet. The effect of vaulting the ceiling was huge and visually increased the size of the room making it feel twice the size. Underfloor heating removed any unnecessary radiators, freeing up valuable space, combined with insulated board between the rafters make the room a comfortable warm space to spend time in. To achieve the aesthetic our clients wanted we used a framed painted cabinet with a stopped champfer detail to the door. The cabinetry was painted in shades of Grey with tall and base cabinets in Farrow & Ball Cornforth white, wall cabinets and dressers in Ammonite and the walls in strong white. This limited palette also helped to make the room feel that much bigger. The dark grey glass reflects light in the room and adds a contemporary feel. The shaped breakfast bar not only adds a dynamic shape to the room but also allows sitting at differing angles for conversation rather than sitting in a row while still offering views over the beautiful garden. Gloss black granite worksurfaces and honed marble flooring complete the clean comfortable feel of this beautiful kitchen.
