Carme apartment

Collaboration: Tania Ayoub Photography: AdriĆ  Goula Next to Ramblas in Barcelona, in the heart of the historic centre, in the emblematic carrer del Carme, there is a building designed in 1861 by Pablo SambrĆ³ BahĆa. On the ground floor, itā€™s placed a typical store known as El Indio, which has a recognized historical and patrimonial value. The refurbishment is done in one of the main floor apartments, with access to three patios, the biggest one itā€™s placed at the back of the plot. They will be filled with plants and will receive a landscape treatment with the aim to create a space of disconnection despite the crazy rhythm of the city, especially in the surrounding streets. The intervention consists in renovating a dwelling using a contemporary program that keeps in mind and prioritizes the maintenance and recovery of primary building elements such as carpentry, shutters and hydraulic flooring. These elements, with their wounds and wrinkles, make us aware of the passing of time, and they are the ones providing a clear added value.
