Lamb, Landscape ArchitectWe have had sea or bay side projects over the years which brings with them a special set of opportunities and constraints.In this case we were challenged with creating a pool garden that had views to the bay. As I don't like to have a swimming pool just as a swimming pool room, I made this pool area a pool 'garden' where accessing the pool is off the main terrace and one enters a garden that has a lap pool, not a lap pool that has a garden.
Elemental Design GroupElemental Design Group had a big challenge in transforming an inaccessible hillside into a beautiful outdoor landscape. The garden includes terraces for an outdoor kitchen, spa deck, dining deck, swimming pool and fireside lounge.
The harmoniously integrated spaces are as beautiful by night with downlighting, up lighting, integrated hardscape lights and the warm glow of fire. Existing decks that were originally disconnected were redesigned to seamlessly flow down to the pool. The pool includes an elevated grade beam to hide the automatic cover, a sun shelf, fire pots, sheer descent water feature, glass tile accents, and color-changing pool lights. Powder coated laser-cut metal panels hide the undersides of the deck providing hidden storage and a dramatic backdrop for the pool area. Custom metal fencing surrounds the pool and upper decks, complimenting the Cor-Ten steel fire pit and retaining walls. Travertine coping and treads, with bluestone porcelain tile, and colorful plantings, are just some of the accents for this functional and luxurious family space.
Platinum PoolcareThis sleek rectilinear pool measures 10'0" x 27'0", and the hot tub is 10'0" x 6'0". The coping is Valders Wisconsin Limestone. Both the pool and hot tub have their own automatic pool safety covers with custom stone lid systems.

Vernon WentzThis is a wonderful lap pool that has a taste of modern with the clean lines and cement cabana that also has a flair of the rustic with wood beams and a hill country stone bench. Made by PatchiThe large pool deck is draped with Silver Takoma Travertine coping, and Passion Silver porcelain pavers. I delineate two areas by the large pool. By creating these two sections within this large area, I was able to keep the composition visually interesting while making two very functional and distinctive zones. The lounge area features three contrasting lounge chairs in black and the seating area by the fireplace features a modern sofa and chairs with black metal frames. The look is sophisticated and functional.

This Urban Naturescape illustrates what can be done in a limited City of Chicago space. The swimming pool measures 9'0" x 31'0" and the hot tub meaures 8'0" x 9'0". The water feature has a 15'6" x 6'0" footprint, and raises 10'0" in the air to provide a beautiful and mellifluous cascase of water. Limestone copings and Natural stone decking along with beautiful stone fascia and wood pergola bring the entire project into focus. Linda Oyama Bryan
