Before and After
The original copper fireplace surround was installed over brick that at some point in it's like had been painted. We found a simple linear slate tile and installed it over the existing brick. We provided a trim detail on each side to allow the pencil slate to have a place to terminate. At the base of the fireplace there had been two simple steps that created a hearth. We boxed in the steps which raised the hearth to align with the firebox. We then capped off the new raised hearth with a curved granite surface.
