The interwar property was transformed into a long-term family home that celebrates lifestyle and connection to the owners’ much-loved garden. Prioritising quality over quantity, the crafted extension adds just 25sqm of meticulously considered space to our clients’ home, honouring Dieter Rams’ enduring philosophy of “less, but better”.
We reprogrammed the original floorplan to marry each room with its best functional match – allowing an enhanced flow of the home, while liberating budget for the extension’s shared spaces. Though modestly proportioned, the new communal areas are smoothly functional, rich in materiality, and tailored to our clients’ passions. Shielding the house’s rear from harsh western sun, a covered deck creates a protected threshold space to encourage outdoor play and interaction with the garden.
This charming home is big on the little things; creating considered spaces that have a positive effect on daily life.
Elder InteriorsThe client was looking for a woodland aesthetic for this master en-suite. The green textured tiles and dark wenge wood tiles were the perfect combination to bring this idea to life. The wall mounted vanity, wall mounted toilet, tucked away towel warmer and wetroom shower allowed for the floor area to feel much more spacious and gave the room much more breathability. The bronze mirror was the feature needed to give this master en-suite that finishing touch.

Pareti colorate in smalto verde. Seduta contenitore in corian. Le pareti del volume vasca doccia non arrivano a soffitto e la copertura è realizzata con un vetro apribile. Un'anta scorrevole in vetro permette di chiudere la zona doccia. A pavimento sono state recuperate le vecchie cementine originali della casa che hanno colore base verde da cui è originata la scelta del rivestimento e colore pareti.

Saikley ArchitectsWe updated this 1907 two-story family home for re-sale. We added modern design elements and amenities while retaining the home’s original charm in the layout and key details. The aim was to optimize the value of the property for a prospective buyer, within a reasonable budget.
New French doors from kitchen and a rear bedroom open out to a new bi-level deck that allows good sight lines, functional outdoor living space, and easy access to a garden full of mature fruit trees. French doors from an upstairs bedroom open out to a private high deck overlooking the garden. The garage has been converted to a family room that opens to the garden.
The bathrooms and kitchen were remodeled the kitchen with simple, light, classic materials and contemporary lighting fixtures. New windows and skylights flood the spaces with light. Stained wood windows and doors at the kitchen pick up on the original stained wood of the other living spaces.
New redwood picture molding was created for the living room where traces in the plaster suggested that picture molding has originally been. A sweet corner window seat at the living room was restored. At a downstairs bedroom we created a new plate rail and other redwood trim matching the original at the dining room. The original dining room hutch and woodwork were restored and a new mantel built for the fireplace.
We built deep shelves into space carved out of the attic next to upstairs bedrooms and added other built-ins for character and usefulness. Storage was created in nooks throughout the house. A small room off the kitchen was set up for efficient laundry and pantry space.
We provided the future owner of the house with plans showing design possibilities for expanding the house and creating a master suite with upstairs roof dormers and a small addition downstairs. The proposed design would optimize the house for current use while respecting the original integrity of the house.

Progressive Design BuildIn the primary bath, a collaborative effort resulted in a serene retreat featuring mirrored accents to enhance brightness and eliminate the need for traditional vanity lights. By eschewing a built-in tub and opting for minimalist design elements, the space exudes a sense of tranquility and harmony.

Elder InteriorsThe client was looking for a highly practical and clean-looking modernisation of this en-suite shower room. We opted to clad the entire room in wet wall shower panelling to give it the practicality the client was after. The subtle matt sage green was ideal for making the room look clean and modern, while the marble feature wall gave it a real sense of luxury. High quality cabinetry and shower fittings provided the perfect finish for this wonderful en-suite.
