Hive Home
In a home with just about 1000 sf our design needed to thoughtful, unlike the recent contractor-grade flip it had recently undergone. For clients who love to cook and entertain we came up with several floor plans and this open layout worked best. We used every inch available to add storage, work surfaces, and even squeezed in a 3/4 bath! Colorful but still soothing, the greens in the kitchen and blues in the bathroom remind us of Big Sur, and the nod to mid-century perfectly suits the home and it's new owners.

The radiator system in the house is fully refurbished and works like a charm! While incorporating wainscoting height tile into the dry area, we painted the walls with C2 BD-15, Snow Sky, Satin, creating a watery, crisp and clean feeling in the room that this means the most in! This new build architectural gem required a sensitive approach to balance the strong modernist language with the personal, emotive feel desired by the clients.
Taking inspiration from the California MCM aesthetic, we added bold colour blocking, interesting textiles and patterns, and eclectic lighting to soften the glazing, crisp detailing and linear forms. With a focus on juxtaposition and contrast, we played with the ‘mix’; utilising a blend of new & vintage pieces, differing shapes & textures, and touches of whimsy for a lived in feel.
