4. Elevate sanitaryware to make a space feel bigger
It’s a common interior design mantra to keep the floor as clear as possible to make a room feel larger, and this en suite by Life Design London is a brilliant example of that principle at work.
A neat toilet and compact basin unit in plain white are wall-hung to make minimal impact on the space while still doing their job. Other tricks at play to visually expand this small bathroom include the wall of sage tongue-and-groove panelling drawing the eye right through the space; the unobtrusive clear glass shower screen, and the large roof window ensuring every corner is brightly lit.

3. Introduce a surprising shade
This mostly neutral bathroom by Pencil and Brick is taken up a notch by the addition of glossy pale pink tiles in the walk-in shower.
The warm colour is inviting and enveloping, while the herringbone pattern and uneven texture of the tiles adds interest and a modern edge. Brass details in the glazing frame and tapware add to the feeling of warmth.

2. Treat yourself to hotel chic
It’s the elegant details that give this en suite bathroom by Pencil and Brick its spa-like mood. The sophisticated palette of black, white and grey-blues is given a touch of glamour by the brass fittings in a rich brushed-gold finish, not least the gleaming towel radiator.
Thin brass edging on the drawer fronts in the bespoke vanity unit and the mirror in the recessed wall cabinet subtly pulls the look together for a crisp, refined result.

1. Give your tiles a modern edge
We’ve spotted an increase in more unusual tile formations on Houzz and a vertical stack bond, as seen here in our No 1 most-saved photo, is key among them. This arrangement, with rectangular tiles set on end and aligned with each other, creates a contemporary look, as well as echoing the current trend for fluted surfaces, as seen on the vanity unit in this project by Amy Stoddart Studio.
The saturated navy of the wraparound tiles creates a cocooning effect, with the glossy glaze adding to the depth and sense of immersion, for a bathroom where cares could be left behind.

Hugely popular terrazzo is a lovely material for a bathroom, as this design by Studio Fabbri demonstrates. This speckled, durable, eco-friendly composite can pull together a colour scheme with its mix of hues and add pattern without disrupting a calm mood.
Here, while the bulk of the room is pale, creating a serene, airy mood, the black tapware and window frame pull out the darker details in the terrazzo for an interesting and cohesive scheme.
