Pune Houzz: This Modern Home Ticks All the Boxes
Wood, pastels and understated luxury give this home by Ketaki Poonawala Designs a serene vibe
“The homeowners wanted a contemporary, easy-to-maintain house that exuded a feeling of repose the moment one steps in. They also required a space to store and display their books, as well as a deck to unwind and hang out,” says Ketaki Poonawala, founder and principal architect, Ketaki Poonawala Designs, the designer of this home in Baner, a Pune suburb.
On the right side of the entrance lobby is the living room, flanked by the dining room, seen in the back here. A leather-clad partition demarcates the dining and seating areas.
The living room gets a touch of glamour with marble flooring and a ceiling with rose metal accents. The tan leather Chesterfield sofas, stylish leather-clad partition and elemental chandelier imbue a sense of luxury.

Next to the dining table is an open kitchen swathed in rich shades of brown, balanced and lightened with creamy-white cabinetry.

A double-height deck or sit-out area abuts the living room. According to the designer, it is the most intrinsic part of the home and is used extensively to relax, unwind or simply enjoy in the views. The pinewood pergola and wooden furniture with tropical upholstery set up a serene outdoor lounge. A white-brick accent wall punctuates the space with rusticity, creating an informal ambience.

The living room opens to a passage that leads to the bedrooms. “This passage has floor-to-ceiling shelves. The unique position of this shelving is achieved by eliminating the partition wall between the media room and passage. This wooden shelving adds warmth to the passage and provides storage without eating into the square footage,” says Poonawala.
Behind the bookshelves is the fourth bedroom, which has been converted into a media room. The warm wooden ceiling and a sectional sofa in deep red give an inviting, cosy ambience in this space.
The first bedroom on the left of the passage is the child’s bedroom. Being an avid Avengers fan, the homeowners’ son wanted a super-hero themed bedroom. The focal point of this bedroom is the superhero wallpaper behind the blue tufted headboard. A wide study desk and colourful shelves for books and toys bring in storage and add to the functionality of the room.

Turning right at the end of the passage we enter the guest bedroom with its four-poster bed and diamond-pattern tufted headboard. A muted colour palette gives this room a tranquil and relaxing vibe.

A mother-of-pearl coffee table set against a metallic-hued wallpaper adds subtle glamour. Complemented with a pastel-green upholstered armchair, it serves as a quaint spot to read or enjoy a cuppa.
The master bedroom is on the right side of the passage. “This room clad in upholstery, wood and rose-metal inlay from ceiling to bottom forms a cosy and comfortable space with a slight glisten of metal to unwind after a long day’s work. Metal pendant lights on either side of the bed complement the entire
