Would love to hear what the lights are standing on behind the sofa. I have tried this look but cant ever find an appropriate set to use.

Some beautiful examples in this post though one needs the luxury of space to achieve this. Balance and harmony can indeed be achieved without symmetry, such as via items displayed on a mantlepiece, on a window sill etc. Symmetrical rooms can look staged and rather formal.

The kitchen in picture 3 looks great but fancy putting a big obstacle between the cooker and the sink! Pasta anyone?


The first room is beautiful but reminds me of my old dentist's waiting room, rather formal and not very cosy.


Symmetry helps small rooms look less cluttered but can look regimented in a big room. I like the offset balance design best!
