This is a good, simple option with shelves above.

If this would be affordable, I like the idea of being able to tuck everything away. I just don't know if it would be better in white, like the pantry doors, or dark wood like the cabinets.

This desk has a great setup with the bookshelf on one end and the storage drawers below. Our space wouldn't allow for it to be lined up perpendicular to the wall like this, but it would still work (mirror image of this one, with the bookshelf on the left) lined up against the wall, with the upper free-standing shelves off center to the right, in front of the desk instead of to the side like in the picture.

I like the simplicity of this desk, and since we don't know how much this kind of addition will cost, this might be a good option for our budget! I'd like to add a leg to the desk though - it makes me a little nervous with my little ones. My son would do pull ups on it, for sure.
