Short-pile carpet tiles
I'm not adverse to this idea if it can been in keeping with the style of the house. However I don't like the edges on the side because you could fall off if you were using it with lights off or couldn't see below you. It also restricts where you can use the ramp, as it can only be put in specific places and the lip of the ramp needs to be smooth.
