kitchen
Main styles I like are transitional and classic. I'm curious to know the status of the current cabinets and what they're made of. I would hate to find out they were really good cabinets and we replaced them with lower quality ones. I just don't know because I didn't pay close attention when we were walking through the house this summer.
My main complaints about the current kitchen are that I feel like the color of the cabinets clashes with the flooring a bit. It's too busy with the variety of colors in the floor and the color and grain in the wood cabinets. Also, the back splash is a little dated and not my style.
Also, I would ideally not have the stove top on the island. I would like for it to be on the main counters where we can have a hood. I don't like the look of kitchens with a hood over the island and without it I feel like the ceiling would get dirty over time. (I cook pretty much every meal at home!) What would be the cost differential with moving the gas line over and can there be a real hood or just a recirculating fan? Another option is to leave the cook top where it is but switch it out to an induction cook top. I think that maybe would make me less nervous not having a hood than putting a gas cook top in the same spot with no hood.
I would love to have a warming drawer if there's room for one. We would like to have a large fridge. I don't remember what the size of the existing fridge is, but maybe you could measure that for reference?
Do we need to get all new appliances? How old is the dishwasher/microwave?
If we do move the stove off the island, would we be able to put a sink there? I'm not totally sure if I want a sink on the island but I think I do...It seems like it would come in handy. If it's really pricey though I'm not married to the idea.
It would be awesome to have a pebble ice machine...but that's not at all necessary.
I don't love exposed shelves because my dishes usually get ugly looking.
I'd love for the island to seat 4 if possible so all 4 kids can sit there at the same time, and having extra storage on the seating side of the island would be great for less-often used kitchen items. The more storage the better.
