Mark, I've definitely thought that a few times, mostly in regard to the very much not updated kitchen.
However, I've also had some "Why on earth DON'T they do this anymore??" moments after having lived in this old house for a few months now. Old fashioned features like the butler stairs (my god they are so convenient), pocket doors, front entry vestibule, and even the dedicated foyer (seeming rarity in newer floor plans), I've found to be wonderful.
