Amazing Eames
With the Eames' designs being honored in places like the Design Museum in London, it's silly to simply say that Eames is amazing. Just look at their work, and how each piece has seemed to endure from their inception mid-twentieth-century to today. How, still, their designs up the awesomeness of any space they deign to occupy. Excellent design, comfort, absolute art, and a high cool factor. These are pieces worth paying up for--and believe me, you'll pay, though I recently saw a kitchen with a raw plywood DIY table and used Eames chairs that looked good as new.
Charles and Ray Eames worked with moulded plywood, shown in photos below, as well as innovative materials such as resin, fiberglass, mesh. Such design brilliance and focus on philosophy and process earned them the Royal Gold Medal in 1979 from the Royal Institute of British Architects, among other accolades.
The Eames pieces are so iconic, so stand-on-their-own, so enduring art, that owning one piece is enough to make a room and start a conversation with both devotees and those who've never heard the name Eames in their life. And, unlike other pieces, Eames furniture not only stands on its own in a room, but almost stands better when kept to one or two pieces.
