@revamp I have several friends that have Carrara marble in their kitchens. Our fabricator did his job and gave us the speil that we will definitely get scratches, etches and stains. After I told him I was aware and comfortable with that he also admitted he has it in his kitchen and would do it all over again.
It's the same reason I did wood spandrel and ballusters, not vinyl or PVC, and wood floors not LVP, although I had to compromise with engineered because of being on a slab at the coast and the moisture content could impact it.
It's completely understandable, why many choose low maintenance items and it's great we all have choices. We did a quartz in our laundry room to save a little bit and while it's definitely pretty, it doesn't in any way look like the kitchens or baths counters we've had installed.
@Steven Holt I didn't build my house based on what Lowes or Home Depot decided is best for me and I wouldn't choose to buy my marble or any counter for a large space from them, becaue it's very limited selection, and usually a "commodity granite or marble" you can't view your slab and would have no clue what you are getting until it's installed. They also outsource to a third party for fabricating and possibly even a fourth for installation. Most people who are paying large amounts for a counter want to view the slab, go to view the layout on the slabs after templating, and have somebody they trust to speak with if there are any concerns. Our fabricator/installer has an outstanding reputation in our area.
@Emily thank you for your kind words. No magazine layouts for us, but I've enjoyed putting our house together to make it to our tastes and preferences.
@lisainkc I've only read about the "no personal items" and I am going by the it's better to ask for forgiveness then permission. We don't plan to move a lot in, but if there's a few items, I think it should be fine.
