"My wife found this piece of furniture, and I modified it to serve at vanity height," says Risher. Using a vessel sink helps adds height to reclaimed furniture vanities.

"When you're trying to give a new home an older feel, it's all in the details," Risher says. In the master bath, these details include a two-paneled door (used throughout the house), beadboard wainscoting, glass doorknobs, an octagonal-tile floor and a claw-foot tub.

he found an old French pocket door, painted and sealed it multiple times and added tempered shatterproof glass. "To finish the look and protect the glass from water spots, we placed a poly brocade curtain behind the door," he says. The total costs were just a fraction of the cost of a glass enclosure, and now the shower has a unique architectural element.
