Repurpose a fabulous piece of furniture you already own or a flea market find into a unique vanity. If you are even a little handy, you use one of the many DIY tutorials online that will show you how to cut holes in the surface for a drop-in sink and faucet, as well as retrofit drawers to make room for the water supply.
One of the most expensive features of renovating a bathroom can be the largest fixture of all: the bathtub. Gorgeous versions from upscale manufacturers can run more than $10,000. For a similar look, check Craigslist or local architectural salvage shops for vintage tubs under $500. For an additional $500-$700, you can have it professionally reglazed to get it looking as good as new.
Large artwork brings focus to walls. A big piece of art, like the elephant print shown here adds personality to a space without painting. For a twist, try a wall-mounted planter filled with succulents or fresh herbs. Afraid you’ll kill living plants? Do as these creative renters did and tape fake plants to the wall to create the look of a hanging planter.
Celebrate the human body in your bedroom artworks. The bedroom is an intimate place, so give it some private sensuality with a little flamboyant nudity. Australian artist Norman Lindsay has been described as a natural bohemian and was famed for his (at the time) provocative depictions of naked nymphs, based on Rubens’ voluptuous nudes. They are still pretty hot today. Lindsay prints can be found on poster websites.
Doorknob Curtain Tieback - $14 7. Make an entrance. A great trick for small closets is to replace the door with a curtains — it opens up the space and adds a little drama. Instead of using a plain old curtain tieback, go with something a bit more glamorous, like this knob from Urban Outfitters.
