consider black counter surface, configuration of wall oven etc., subway tile, toe kick "feet". Like how molding bridges gap between uppers and ceiling.
almost exactly the layout we want. There is a dishwasher next to the range oven. Consider fridge located right next to door opening. looks like light is coming in from space between turn of counter/cabinets and range/hood.

hood is simple but has the traditional look. like flat subway tile, but would change to lighter grout. Tile up to hood.
toe kick corners- nothing fancy, but makes a difference. Use for peninsula.
This includes some elements others have suggested: pendant lights over peninsula, red sink cabinetry with posts (Nancy suggested for under cook top), arched molding piece over sink to bridge from hood to another cabinet?
